About the Artist:
Johnathan Herzberg is 29 years old, born and raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated Texas A&M University in 2013 with a bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering. Until twenty years old, art never interested him, but an abrupt need to create caused a shift in focus toward more intrinsic pursuits. He began with spray paint techniques, using whatever tools he could get his hands on, then moved on to experimenting with acrylics and oils. Now he uses art as a means to escape the rules of analytical thinking.
About the Art:
When I paint I rely on intuition as a way of moving forward. I begin a painting by trying an idea or technique with the mindset that it probably won't go as planned. This is done in order to relieve the pressure of getting started. Sometimes the most important step is just putting paint on the canvas. Knowing when a project is done, more often than not, comes as a sudden realization that it feels like it is done. On the other hand there have been many cases where it seems done at the time and then I end up changing something weeks later. The foundation of my creative process is to try to figure out new ways of manipulating the paint or techniques I have seen others use. When people see my work I want them to understand it in their own way. I like to think that each painting can be perceived differently by each person that views it.
Herzberg = “Heart Mountain”, From this came Art Mountain.
